Hibberdene Couta Classic 2011
The competition was well supported with 319 anglers and 128 boats having entered.
Dewald van der Merwe won first prize with his 26.85kg couta. He was closely followed by second prize winner PJ Botha with a 25.3kg couta and Chris Diedericks with a 24.95kg couta.
Taking fourth place was Mike Schneider with a 23.2kg couta and fifth place went to Riaan Bezuidenhoudt with a 21.9kg couta. T
he crowd cheered as the winning fish weighed in at a whopping 26.85kg.
Dewald won a brand new Seacat 510 ski-boat.
Coba Coetzee won first prize in the women’s sec-tion. She caught a 13.75kg couta. In the junior division PJ Botha (junior) caught a 17.25kg couta.
The biggest other game fish caught was a 24.9kg amber jack caught by Alan Simes. The Hibberdene Ski-boat Club thanked its main sponsors, Hennie Pretorious from Stick A Tile and Ronald Tarboton from Criterion Yamaha for the first prize, a Seacat 510 ski-boat.
The club also thanked chairman Pete Richards for organising a successful competition.
The 2010 Hibberdene Couta Classic Competition results: The compo was a huge success with 346 anglers taking part on 132 boats with one angler even flying out from Australia.
1st prize a Seacat 510 with 50 trim and tilt Yamahas on a trailer sponsored by Stick a tile and Yamaha valued at R250 000.00 was won by Marc Duckham with a monster 36.4 kg Couta (picture supplied).
2nd prize was a GPS / FishFinder combo sponsored by Furuno valued at R25000.00 and won by Jarrod Dryer with a 27 kg Couta.
To show the quality of fish caught, the 20th prize was for a Couta weighing 16 kg.
The average Couta caught weighed 15.4 kg and won Craig Montgomery a paddle ski. All in all the compo was extremely successful and we look forward to hosting another fun Easter compo next year.
