PORT EDWARD JETSKI COMPETITION RESULTS Port Edward ski boat club and Marlin Angling Club set a new record.
Well done Port Edward Ski Boat Club and Marlin Angling Club for hosting the BIGGEST JET SKI FISHING COMPETITION IN THE WORLD!! Thank you to the committee for organizing the event and running it so flawlessly. A special thankyou to all of you that joined us and fished despite the horrendous weather!62 competitors entered the event topping the previous record by a mere 3 competitors! Despite the poor weather conditions on Saturday and Sunday, the jetskis headed out to sea to try and catch a winning fish. On Saturday 50 jetski's braved the big sea and stormy weather and managed to catch a total of 102 fish. Of the first days catch, 51 were weighed, and a vast majority released. On Sunday the sea was even bigger and the surf launching proved tough for the anglers and only 25 anglers braved the even bigger surf and worse weather conditions. All anglers were patient and managed to launch safely, 49 fish were caught and 28 weighed. The leading fish on Saturday night was a Dorado of 11.56kg caught by Mark Brand of Trafalgar, a sleepless night was no doubt had by him and a long wait the next day revealed Danie Basson of Port Edward pipping him at the post, with a Yellow Fin Tuna of 23.78kg. He caught the fish off the Casino in 8 fathoms of water and for his efforts he won a Yamaha VX1100 jetski rigged for fishing, sponsored by Criterion and Racetech Yamaha, the trailer was sponsored by Xrad trailers and the fishfinder by Lowrance, the ski comes with insurance for a year from Eikos. In addition, cash sponsorship from Yamaha Financial Services, Margate Panel beaters and Hibiscus Coast assisted in securing the costs of the jetski, and not forgetting all the other sponsors, a big thank you to all of you for making this possible, without you we could not have given away such a magnificent prize! A total of 78 fish were weighed of which 67 were Yellow fin Tuna, 1 Wahoo, 1 Skipjack, 1 Bonito and 8 Dorado. The prize for the "Most Meritorious Fish" which is chosen by the committee went to Peter Brereton for releasing a Yellow Fin Tuna, Oceanic Tuna, Captain Fine and an Englishman. A BIG thank you to the NSRI for their assistance on Saturday with the jetski that had mechanical failure, they towed the jetski safely to the base and it just reinforced to all the competitors the importance of having them at both Shelley and Port Edward. It gives us great peace of mind knowing that somebody is out there for us in the event of any form of trouble on the sea. Hats off to NSRI and all voluntary members for giving of your time, it is greatly appreciated. Thank you to all the competitors that entered the event, much fun was had by all and we look forward to the event in December next year, keep your diaries clean for the weekend of the 14th December 2012 for another great compo. 1 DANIE BASSON yellowfin 23.78 2 MARK BRAND dorado 11.56 3 ARMAND DE VOS dorado 9.28 4 DAVID WILD yahoo 8.24 5 RUSSELL WOOD yellowfin 8.00 6 SEAN ROBERTS yellowfin 7.96 7 SEAN ROBERTS yellowfin 7.94 8 TANE HUGHES yellowfin 7.84 9 BRUCE MCKERRELL yellowfin 7.56 10 MARK PLEDGER yellowfin 7.52
PORT EDWARD JETSKI FISHING COMPETITION
Jet-ski fishing is an extremely popular and exciting sport that has grown phenomenally fast in South Africa as well as in Australia and New Zealand.
Port Edward Ski Boat and Marlin Angling Club are very excited to announce that we are going to host a jet-ski only fishing competition. We run an extremely popular and successful ski boat competition in May every year and decided to investigate the viability of hosting a jet-ski compo. As this market is fairly new in South Africa, we are attempting to host the BIGGEST JETSKI ONLY fishing competition be held in the world. We pride ourselves on the fact that the Port Edward Ski Boat and Marlin Angling Club have an extremely competent committee, an awesome venue and to hold an event of this nature is well within the capabilities of the club and its committee. We are very excited to have G & T Productions on board; they will be filming the compo and will be producing two shows which will be on Supersport on the Inside Angling production. This will give both our club and Port Edward some fantastic exposure and launch our jetski compo as an annual event.
We are proud to have Racetech and Criterion Yamaha on board as our main sponsor and we are giving away a fully rigged Yamaha VX1100 jet-ski on a trailer as first prize and a host of other great prizes to the total value of around R200 000. To all our club members, if you would like to sponsor the compo in the form of cash or prizes, please contact us.
The competition will be held on the 10th and 11th of December 2011, at the Port Edward Ski Boat Club. We have 60 launches available at Port Edward (first come first served basis), the balance of the entrants will launch at Glenmore, Ramsgate and Shelley Beach. These are the only launch sites available in terms of the competition. The format will be based on first prize being awarded to the biggest edible fish, the second prize will be awarded to the biggest released fish, and the third prize will be awarded to the most meritorious fish. There will be prizes allocated right up to tenth place.
Port Edward Ski Boat Club is promoting a family weekend and would like to extend an invitation to all wives, partners, children and friends to join us, there will be activities for both the ladies and children throughout the weekend and being such a great venue we also have a fantastic beach for the family to enjoy.
Early bird entrance fees start at R500-00 per angler - which includes dinner on Saturday and Sunday nights and a great early morning breakfast prior to launching – provided you are launching at Port Edward. If you don’t catch the Early bird entrance it will cost R750-00
